Create a Gentle Bridge to Bedtime
If your days are busy, your mind and body may need a clear signal that it’s time to stop carrying responsibilities and begin preparing for rest.
That signal doesn’t require an elaborate or perfect bedtime routine. It can be one simple action:
• Dim the lights.
• Put away your phone.
• Write down tomorrow’s priorities.
• Spend a few minutes breathing slowly.
• Listen to calming music.
• Read something peaceful.
• End the day with quiet prayer.
The particular activity matters less than choosing something calming and practicing it consistently.

Writing down tomorrow’s priorities can be especially helpful when your mind is trying to remember everything. You aren’t ignoring your responsibilities—you’re placing them somewhere safe until you are ready to return to them.
I am notorious for getting comfortable and cozy – and having a thought pop into my head that I need to take care of the next day. My solution to that is to keep a pad of paper and a pen in my bedside drawer. That way, when something occurs to me that I’m afraid I’ll forget, I just write it down. Then I can release it and move back into rest. It really does help!
God created our need for rest. Rest is not a weakness, a waste of time, or a reward we receive only after everything is finished. Some things will remain unfinished at bedtime, and we can trust God to hold what we set down.
THIS WEEKEND’S PRACTICE
Choose one calming bedtime signal and practice it for several nights. Don’t try to change your entire routine at once. Simply begin building a gentle bridge between activity and rest.
TODAY’S TOSS
I can set down what remains unfinished, give my mind and body permission to rest, and trust God with what tomorrow holds.
What simple bedtime signal will you try this weekend?
